What is Fiber-To-The-Home?
Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) is the building of a fiber optic line/network to the consumer’s home for the delivery of multiple advanced services, including telephone, Internet and television.
Development of FTTH?
As the telecommunications industry progresses, the use for fiber optical cable is continually increasing. Fiber optic cable was first developed to transmit large amounts of data over long distances and to be more cost effective than the traditional copper lines. As fiber technology improves, cost of deployment decreases, and the demand for more services continues to grow allowing fiber to be the communications line all the way to the customer.
Advantages of FTTH
-
Offers the ability to offer voice, video, and data through a single line.
-
Provides virtually unlimited bandwidth for future needs
-
Ability to easiliy adapt to the technology needs of the future
How FTTH Works
The fiber is deployed to the home by an underground drop. Once the fiber reaches the premise, it is then connected to the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) which is placed on the outside of the home and converts the signal to either data, voice or video which is then distributed throughout the home. The ONT is placed on the side of the home and can replace all other telephone and cable TV service boxes.
A Power Supply is then placed within the home to provide reliable and continuous service.
